For this week we would like to ask that you read an article on
Cluster Grouping : http://www.pvschools.net/gifted/pdfs/GEPQ_spring08.pdf
This link is connected to the Gifted Resource Site and provides you with several different articles on Cluster Grouping. (It may be necessary for you to copy the link into your browser.) It is imperative that as educators we have a clear understanding of how Cluster Grouping works and how it is implemented within our school system. Please read one or more of the articles and then prepare a post that tells how you personal would explain Cluster Grouping to a parent.
Happy reading!
Gifted students have exceptional educational needs that can best be met when other high-ability students are grouped or "clustered" in the same classroom. By clustering according to ability and potential, the learning range that teachers provide for is narrowed, thus optimizing how (s)he provides for students. Cluster teachers differentiate instruction by modifying methods, curriculum, and / or assignments and homework. This ensures that the gifted students are challenged and continuously learning. Students are credited for material they already have learned; extension activities and alternative homework will be provided; students will be with students similar to them which is very motivating, allowing them challenges and promoting progress while meeting their social, emotional, and academic needs.
ReplyDeleteSometimes the differentiation is not that noticeable to the "untrained" eye. The questioning and level of conversation is much different in the cluster group and this is a huge part of the higher level learning that is happening in a cluster classroom. How do you explain this to parents??
